Crown Point is located on a site that has been farmed since the early 19th century.   For most of its history the farm was run as a diversified farm typical for its day.  Towards the last half of the 1900s the farm was managed as was typical for those times - to grow grain.   Since the inception of Crown Point Ecology Center, organic gardening has been an important use of the land here, both to provide vegetables and to begin the process of healing the land from the years of 'over-farming'.

The gardens began small and supported a number of families in a subscription program.  In 1997 we began to grow crops for the Akron Canton Regional Foodbank.  To provide a financial support base for our Foodbank Farm efforts and to ensure the support of a wider community, a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program was started the following year.  That first year we offered 20 shares and have since grown to offer 65.  We continue to grow produce for the Foodbank, with a commitment to provide at least half of what we grow to help feed the less fortunate.
