Crown Point offers several opportunities to gain hands-on experience in organic agriculture and environmental education.

Summer Intern and Apprentice Staff 2002


2003 Farmer Apprentice & Farmer

Spring Internship (Teacher/Organic Gardener) 1 position
This position is for 12 weeks, March through May 2005 (dates negotiable)

Responsibilities:

bullet

Plan and lead gardening and environmental education activities for spring and early summer youth programs

bullet

Assist in development of summer earth camp scheduling

bullet

Assist with planting, cultivating and harvesting in youth organic gardens

bullet

Assist with the direction and support of volunteers

Qualifications:

bullet

Desire to work with youth in an Earth-friendly environment

bullet

Desire and ability to work around small farm animals with children

bullet

Ability to perform outdoor physical labor

bullet

Previous leadership experience with children or environmental education preferred

bullet

Previous experience with organic gardening helpful

bullet

Completion of sophomore year of college (minimum)

Organic Farmer Apprentice
This position is for 20 weeks from mid April through September; dates are negotiable.

Responsibilities:

bullet Assisting the farm staff with planting, maintenance, and harvesting for the Foodbank Farm, CSA and Farmer's Market
bullet Assist with packing, shipping, and preparation of harvested crops for distribution
bullet Help coordinate the efforts of volunteers, work groups, and CSA members who are working on the farm
bullet Help interpret the farm programs to visitors, guests and volunteers
bullet Assist with other tasks as needed

Qualifications:

bullet Knowledge of and experience with organic vegetable growing techniques
bullet Ability to perform outdoor physical labor
bullet Skills and desire to relate with volunteers, children, and other staff in a team situation
bullet Openness to work in an environment which connects spirituality and ecological responsibility

This position is for 10 weeks, June 6 through August 13 2005

Responsibilities:

Plan and lead gardening and environmental education activities for summer youth programs including the summer Earth Camp and other children’s activities

bullet

 Assist with summer family events

bullet

 Assist with planting, cultivating and harvesting of youth organic gardens

bullet

 Assist with the direction and support of volunteers

Qualifications:

bullet

Desire to work with youth in an Earth-friendly environment

bullet

Ability to perform outdoor physical labor

bullet

Previous leadership experience with children or environmental education preferred

bullet

Previous experience with organic gardening helpful

bullet
